Throughout India and in most countries throughout the world, children often go without food on a regular basis. These children are from families who are struggling or children who may be living with other family members or guardians who live in impoverished conditions.
Food is one of the essentials of life. When children do not eat, they are not able to focus on academics, which leads to an increased drop-out rate in formal and non-formal educational programs. In addition, in low-income families, children may be required to take on the role of supplementing the income for the family. Children that leave school to work do not get the basic education they need to find good jobs, continue with their education, or be in a position to increase their earning potential in the future.
Giving the Gift of Food
Making a food donation to a charity in India that distributes meals to schools and non-formal educational programs is a wonderful way to give back to the community. For a very small donation that can be made online, children in poor neighborhoods and areas of the country will have at least one healthy, nutritious meal to start the day.
Many of the top charitable organizations allow individuals to make a food donation to feed a child for a year. Individuals can also set their own donation amount, including providing meals for more than one child.
In pairing the meals with education, children are encouraged to continue to attend school and they enjoy a meal that allows them to focus and concentrate on academics throughout the day.
Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust provides food for children at 49 schools throughout the country. To make a food donation, visit us at ratnanidhi.org.
