If you have a small kitchen, it’s not the end of the world. HGTV recommends a focus on function first. Make the most of your space by using a few special pieces to brighten up what could be a boring and utilitarian space. Here and three tips for making a small kitchen into a space that you can love and live with.

1. Consolidate

You do not need a bunch of one-use kitchen gadgets taking up precious space, or a block of knives that would do credit to a Michelin-rated chef. Some classic space savers include the epic Instant Pot appliance that can take the place of a pressure cooker, crock pot, rice cooker, saute/searing pan, yogurt maker, and even makes yummy cakes! Trim pots and pans down to those you actually use, and invest in better quality instead of bigger sets.

2. Organize

Clutter in a small space means waste. Stuff gets pushed to the back of cabinets, expires, and can even draw in pests. Clear out your pantry and invest in tight-sealing containers, racks, and even over-the-door storage it make the most of all your space. Buying this stuff does not have to be expensive, you can find a lot of the items at your local dollar store.

3. Signature Touches

Don’t be afraid to splash the cash on an item that’s really outstanding, and can showcase your culinary skills. If you’re a desert maven – for example – cough up for the crystal cake stand that makes your fondant strut like a runway model. On a modest budget, a crystal cake stand might seem a little too aspirational, but it’s a memorable touch to a small dinner party that everyone will remember.

You don’t need a cooking-show kitchen to have delicious food, just some good ideas and a willingness to innovate. If you’re in a small space, then get into your small space and make it your very own.
