It is actually wise to choose a Wrecker service before you need one. Getting stranded on the side of the road is not a pleasant experience, but getting stranded on the side of the road and not knowing whom to call can create a sense of panic. It is possible to avoid that sense of panic by doing your research in advance.

Before you find yourself stranded, find a wrecker service that will fit your needs. It may help to ask your friends and coworkers about the wrecker services that they use. Then you should examine what type of vehicle you drive and what type of wrecker service is needed to transport your vehicle should you break down. If you drive a truck with four wheel drive, you will need a rollback to transport your vehicle. Not all wrecker services have a rollback, so you need to keep that in mind. You will also need a rollback if your vehicle is over sized. Determine your needs, then determine which companies might meet those needs.

You may wish to also check the reputation of those wrecker services that were recommended to you. While they may be recommended by a friend, you want to ensure that their reputation in the community is one of reliability and respect. There are often reviews online, but be aware that one negative comment does not mean that they are unreliable. However, multiple negative comments might steer you away from that particular company.

Once you have the name of one or two services, you might want to call them to determine what their service area is and to determine what their fee schedule is like. Most often, there is a base charge and then additional charges are based upon the number of miles being towed. There are some auto insurances which may help cover the expenses related to towing, but they are not automatically included in the policy. If your car is older and prone to breakdowns, you might consider adding towing to your insurance, and then ensure that the towing service you prefer is able to be utilized.
