Believe it or not, the first patent for an automatic photography machine was filed in 1888 by Edward Poole and William Pope of Baltimore, although it has been determined that it was probably never built. However, the idea of automated photograph and photo booths kept growing.
The first commercial photo booth rental, like the ones we are familiar with, was placed on Broadway in New York City in 1925. It was placed there by Russian immigrant Anatol Josepho, and for a quarter, you could have 8 printed photos in about 10 minutes.
The booth was so successful that in the first six months of operation, it was used by 280,000 people and The Photomaton Company was established and set about placing photo booths all around the nation. Four years later in 1927, Josepho was paid a whopping $1 million dollars for his invention along with guaranteed royalties.
Today’s photo booths have come a long way from that first one in New York City. For the most part, you could find photo booth rentals at fairs, malls and tourist attractions. However, now you can rent your very own photo booth for a special occasion.
Photo booth rentals are becoming extremely popular, and according to Google statistics for 2016, more people in 15 major cities have searched for photo booth rentals than for DJ services.
A photo booth will certainly be a big attraction for a wedding, birthday or anniversary party, corporate events or other gatherings. Folks can take pictures at the event that they can take away with them as mementos.
Photo booths now offer so many options that they can provide your guests with a picture of themselves alongside an image of the invitation to the event. They can even provide a keepsake of all the photos taken for the host to view later. Some booths even make stickers, postcards, decorative borders and choices of multiple backgrounds. The biggest thing they offer is a lot of fun!
