Thinking about starting a restaurant in NJ? Perhaps you’re expending your existing restaurant, or you’re renovating your commercial kitchen. Whatever the case, the right equipment is necessary for running a successful business. Of course, it can also be expensive. You can save money and time with used restaurant equipment for sale, but you’ll need to make sure that you’re sourcing it correctly.

Go for Gas

While you’ll find both electric and gas kitchen equipment available in used condition, it’s generally the better option to go for gas appliances. This is because there are fewer components to fail with gas equipment, and there is usually less wear and tear, with all else being equal. Gas equipment is also cheaper to repair if it does break down after you’ve purchased it.

The Remainder of Warranty?

Another important tip to help ensure that you get the best deal possible is to buy used equipment with an eye toward warranty protection. To be clear, a lot of the used equipment available will not have any warranty remaining, but some pieces, particularly more expensive appliances, will have at least a little bit remaining. Check with the seller to determine if there is any warranty remaining, and then make those pieces your priority. The seller may also offer some warranty protection, usually in the range of 60 to 90 days.

Buy Scratch and Dent

If you’re shopping for used restaurant equipment for sale, you can save a lot of money and still get a brand new piece of equipment by buying from scratch and dent sales. These are brand new pieces of equipment that cannot be sold as new because of damage. In almost all cases, the damage is purely cosmetic and will not affect the operation of the equipment at all.

Avoid Very Old Equipment

The restaurant industry is incredibly competitive, and most restaurants fail within the first two years. That means there’s plenty of lightly used equipment out there. Don’t feel pressured to buy anything that’s older than about five years. Remember that the older the equipment, the shorter the life will be, and the less efficient it will be.
