Whether the plan is to transport you to another medical facility or ensure you have proper care during a trip, it’s a good idea to have a registered nurse along. The travel RN will provide certain types of services designed to make the trip more comfortable and safe. Here are three examples of what the nurse will do.

Making Sure You Take Your Medication
During the trip, the travel RN will check the schedule for taking any prescription or over the counter medication that you are supposed to take. The goal is to make sure that everything is taken on time. Doing so will ensure you don’t begin to experience any discomfort that could occur because of missing a dose.

Monitoring any Medical Equipment
That You Need to Take Along If you are supposed to be monitored using any type of medical equipment during the trip, the nurse will ensure the setup is correct and make it a point to check the readings from time to time. If required, the nurse will maintain a patient chart that documents those readings. The detail will also include any manual checks like blood pressure or temperature readings.

Providing Companionship
Having a travel RN along also ensures that you have someone to converse with during the trip. For patients who are not traveling with family members, it’s nice to have someone who will chat with you when you like and also settle in close by if you feel the need for a nap.

Remember the goal of the travel nurse is to ensure you are stable and comfortable for the duration of the trip. Many patients experience less anxiety knowing that the nurse is there. If you are planning a trip and need someone who can monitor your condition, consider hiring a travel nurse. You’ll be happy that you did.
